“In the business of strengthening communities and learning we work together to ensure our committees, staff and volunteers are also resourced to learn and thrive

CHAOS supports the work of Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres with their communities. We do this through linking, resourcing and advocating on behalf of our member. We are a network of 31 Neighbourhood Houses and Centres based in the Outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

We are excited to be working with our members on the Together We Do Better Project which is around educating ourselves on the harm caused by problem gambling and how Neighbourhood Houses can work with their communities to reduce harm. The project has been made possible through a grant from the Victorian  Responsible Gambling Foundation (VRGF)

You might know your local Neighbourhood House as a Community House, Community Centre, Living and Learning centre, we operate under a few different names with each organisation working with their community to reflect local needs. Despite the different names, we all  bring people together to connect, learn and contribute in their local community through social, educational, recreational and support activities, using a unique community development approach.

Community development is about enabling communities to identify and address their own needs. It starts from the assumption that communities have existing strengths and assets that make them part of the solution. Community development practice is about doing with, rather than doing for.

Neighbourhood Houses welcome people from all walks of life. This inclusive approach creates opportunities for individuals and groups to enrich their lives through connections they might not otherwise make.
